Questions

The things people ask before they buy.

Including the two we answer in a way most children’s shoe shops do not: no, do not buy a size up, and no, we will not remind you when to measure again.

Sizing

How do I know what size to order?

Measure the foot rather than guessing from the age. Stand the child on a sheet of paper with weight on the foot, mark the heel and the longest toe, measure between the lines in millimetres, and do both feet. Put the longer number into the Growing Room calculator and it returns a size for whichever line you are buying.

Growing Room

Why does the same EU number fit a different foot in different lines?

Because each line is built around a different allowance. A rain boot is sized over a thick sock and carries 14 mm; a closed-toe sandal worn barefoot carries 8 mm. The inside of the shoe is the same for a given EU number, so the foot it fits is different. This is why we ask you to size from millimetres rather than from a number you remember.

How we arrive at a size

Why don't you publish UK or US size conversions?

Because they differ between makers, and every conversion is another place for the number to go wrong. We publish EU numbers and, next to each one, the measured foot length in millimetres that it covers. The millimetres are the part that transfers between brands; the numbers are not.

Should I buy a size up so they last longer?

No, and we would rather lose the sale than say otherwise. A shoe one size too big has six or seven extra millimetres of empty space in front of the foot. At every step the foot slides into it, the heel lifts out of the back and the toes curl to hold the shoe on. We do not recommend more than one size above the measured fit, and we will show you what two sizes up would mean before telling you not to do it.

Should I buy next year's size now while it is available?

We do not suggest it. Feet do not grow evenly, and the shape changes as well as the length. A pair bought a year ahead is a guess about a foot that does not exist yet. There are no back-to-school countdowns on this site for the same reason.

How long will a pair last?

The calculator gives a range of months rather than a single number, because children grow at very different rates. It is an estimate and it is labelled as one everywhere it appears. The honest answer is: measure again every eight to twelve weeks depending on age, and when the gap in front of the longest toe is down to about 4 mm, the pair is finished regardless of how much tread is left.

Will you remind me when it is time to measure again?

No, deliberately. The results page shows a suggested interval for you to note down, and that is where it stops. We do not send emails or notifications based on a child's age or on when you last measured, and those numbers never enter any messaging queue.

Buying

What currency are prices in?

Every price on this site is in US Dollars (USD). There is no currency switch, and USD is the only currency we charge in. If your card is denominated in something else, your bank sets the conversion rate.

How does checkout work?

You give delivery details and confirm you are over 18. Nothing is charged at that point. We record the order, check the foot lengths against the sizes chosen, and send a secure payment link to your email — normally within one business day. If a size looks wrong to us we call or write before taking any money.

Which cards do you accept, and is it secure?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro. The whole site runs over HTTPS and card details are entered on a PCI-DSS compliant payment page. Card numbers, expiry dates and security codes never pass through this website and are never stored on our systems.

Payment and payment security

Is there a discount code?

One: FIRSTFIT, 10 % off a first order, applied to the goods total before shipping, one use per customer, not combined with anything else. Full conditions are published rather than hidden in a footer.

Promotions and discounts

Do you have a physical shop?

No. This is an online shop only, operated from a registered office in Oliveira de Azeméis, Portugal. The address is published on the legal information page and in the footer of every page.

Legal information

Do you sell to nurseries, schools or shops?

Yes, from 10 pairs. Send the age bands and, if you have them, the actual foot lengths, and we come back with a size distribution rather than a catalogue. We can supply entirely plain pairs with no pattern, contrast panel or visible branding.

Delivery, returns and guarantee

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Standard shipping is $12, free on orders of $89 or more. Dispatch is 1–2 business days after payment clears: 2–4 business days within Portugal, 3–7 business days elsewhere in the European Union, 7–15 business days for the rest of the world. Delivery is never later than 30 days from the contract.

Shipping and returns

Can I return them if they do not fit?

Yes. 14 days from delivery, no reason needed. Try them indoors on carpet, as you would in a shop. The one thing that ends the right to return a pair is outdoor wear on the sole, which is visible in the tread — we say so here, on every product page and again at checkout rather than after you have posted them back.

Right of withdrawal

Who pays return postage?

You do when you simply changed your mind. We do when the goods are defective, when we sent the wrong item or size, or when the parcel arrived damaged.

What happens if something breaks?

The legal guarantee runs for 3 years under Portuguese law, with a presumption in your favour for the first 2. A sole that has come away, a strap that no longer holds, an eyelet that has pulled out, a seam that has opened — all defects. A foot that has grown is not.

Legal guarantee

Can I exchange for a different size?

Yes, within the same window. Tell us the measured foot length in millimetres rather than the size you want, and we confirm which size that is before anything is posted. We send the new pair as soon as the original is on its way back with proof of posting.

Safety and materials

Are the shoes safe for a toddler?

Everything sold from under three years old carries no laces and no removable decorative part of any kind — no buttons, beads, pom-poms or badges. That is a swallowing and choking rule and the simplest way to comply with it is not to attach anything in the first place. Where a pair further up the range does carry a decorative part, it has passed a 90 N pull test held for ten seconds and is marked as not for under-threes.

Safety and materials

What chemical testing do you do?

Five restrictions, on every pair: chromium VI in leather at 3 mg/kg, azo dyes at 30 mg/kg of releasable aromatic amines, nickel release at 0.5 µg/cm² per week after wear pre-treatment, phthalates at 0.1 % by weight in plasticised parts, and free formaldehyde at 16 mg/kg on parts touching skin. Each product page states the limit, the method and whether the restriction applies to that pair. Batch reports are available on request.

Is any of this medical footwear?

No. We do not sell orthopaedic, corrective or therapeutic footwear, and nothing here is a medical device. We describe how our shoes are made. We don't give advice about your child's feet. If you have concerns, ask a healthcare professional.

Will they keep feet dry in the rain?

We do not use that word without conditions attached. Where a pair carries a water rating, the test is printed next to it — which test, at what temperature, for how long, and what was excluded. A rubber boot tested for three hours in 30 mm of standing water is a laboratory result under those conditions, not a promise about every puddle. Where a pair has no rating, we make no claim at all.

Can I put them in the washing machine?

Only the pairs marked washable, and only at the stated temperature. The Everyday Washable takes 30 °C on a gentle cycle with the insole out; the moulded sandal rinses under a tap. Everything else wipes with a damp cloth. Nothing at all should be dried on a radiator: adhesives and moulded EVA do not survive it.

Do any of the shoes have cartoon characters on them?

None. No cartoon, character, film or television tie-in, and no third-party trademark, logo or pattern anywhere in the catalogue or on the packaging. Every product is reviewed against that rule before it is listed.

We describe how our shoes are made. We don't give advice about your child's feet. If you have concerns, ask a healthcare professional. Passinho makes shoes and describes them accurately; that is the whole of what we claim to do.
